It was another great week in amateur radio for several reasons.

  • Received my first international QSL card! F4GVO was kind enough to send me TWO of his cards, each with a different design. Of course I will be reciprocating!
  • I worked a few special event stations, including 100 year anniversary stations for WSB in Atlanta and WWL in New Orleans. They are legendary AM broadcast stations. I also worked 4A90QUI in Mexico, which is commemorating their 90th year. They are the Mexican equivalent of the ARRL.
  • For whatever reason, 15m seems to be a great DX band from my location. TONS of stations from Japan, Russia, and all over Europe too. I even heard China a couple of times, though I wasn’t quick enough to work them. I DID however get to work New Zealand on 15m FT8!

On Saturday, the day started with a great meeting of the SMART Club. That’s the Southwest Michigan Amateur Radio Team. Nice bunch of folks! I played radio and napped for a good part of the day after that. It was Saturday, after all!

In the evening, the Black River ARC (my main club) met and it too was a great meeting. We had great discussion about buying a new repeater (we voted and the motion passed…yay!), and we held elections for the board. I am humbled to be able to serve my first term as an officer in the capacity of secretary. The only position that did not get a new person in office was treasurer.

Overall, it was a great week of radio for me. Next week promises to be fun as well because…well, there’s a new radio on the way! Pictures coming soon! Until next time, 73!
